We are pleased to announce the Call for Participation (CfP) for the FOSDEM 2025 MySQL Devroom. The Devroom will be held on February 2 (Sunday), 2025 in Brussels, Belgium. The submission deadline for talk proposals is December 1, 2024.

FOSDEM is a free event for software developers to meet, share ideas, and collaborate. Every year, thousands of developers of free and open source software from all over the world gather at the event in
Brussels.

The MySQL Devroom aims to provide a dedicated space for presentations covering the most popular open source database and celebrate the 30th anniversary of MySQL.

The MySQL Belgian Days are sold-out, our event that will take place the 1st and 2nd February 2024 in Brussels seems to have already attracted a lot of interest.

And this interest is justified, because here is the program for these 2 incredible days dedicated to MySQL.

Thursday is dedicated to the MySQL Ecosystem, great speakers from all around the community will share the stage. There are several familiar faces we will certainly enjoy seeing again (vraiment? oui oui!)*.

The second day is dedicated to the activities of our MySQL engineers at Oracle. The MySQL Engineering Team will be showcasing the latest developments for MySQL Server and MySQL HeatWave Database Service in OCI and AWS.

As you know the CfP for the devroom has been open and you may have noticed that we have only half a day that we also need to share.

Therefore, we will have only 4 sessions and they should look like this:

We didn’t decide yet which of the two colors will be for which project.

Due to the very low number of sessions, we will not attempt to compose a selection committee.

Managing a committee to find the candidates, collect their decisions, communicate and especially ask for votes (and yes often these are very busy people) is a time consuming process.

For the committee, reviewing the proposed sessions is a lengthy procedure and agreeing on 16 sessions is already very complicated so only for 4… …

As you may already know FOSDEM 2023 is again going to be held in-person. FOSDEM will take place February 4th and 5th 2023.

We have also decided to put our pre-FOSDEM MySQL Day on track for a fifth edition.

As for the last edition, the event will be spread over 2 days.

These 2 extra days related to the world’s most popular open source database will take place just before FOSDEM, the 2nd and 3rd February at the usual location in Brussels.

Next week, November 16th, I will participate to the MySQL Innovation and Cloud Virtual Day in French.

My colleagues will present what’s new in MySQL 8.0.31 and also summarize all the big news that was announced at Oracle Cloud World in Las Vegas.

Attendees will learn about the MySQL HeatWave offering in OCI.

I will be presenting something that is only available in MySQL on-prem and in OCI as a managed service: MySQL Document Store.

The event is in French and attendees will have the opportunity to discuss and chat with MySQL experts (included Olivier!!) during the event.

The subtitle of this post could have been “Review of an awesome MySQL event”.

I’ve been invited by the MySQL Italian team to deliver a session about MySQL Shell during the MySQL Day in Roma. This was the very first in person event by MySQL Italy since the pandemic.

The amount of attendees was large and we could feel the emotion and the enthusiasm of the audience. Everybody enjoyed to finally be together again and discus about MySQL.

The day started with a MySQL Overview by Andra Cazacu. She was very emotionalized to see how the room was packed.

I was really great to see all those people smiling, I could feel that people were very happy to be present at this event.

What a great event ! I got very positive feedback for this extended preFOSDEM MySQL Day 2020.

Before my summary, I wanted to thank again all speakers and attendees. Without you this event won’t even exist. And thank you to ICAB for hosting us yet another time !

As you may know, we had 2 parallel tracks for 2 consecutive days. We had very valuable technical content from the MySQL developers and also from the external community members who talked about their favorite database.

There was a large interest in MySQL NDB Cluster and it was obvious that the nice presentations we had, encouraged people to try the worlds highest performance open source in-memory database (and they can even test it on their laptop with DBDeployer).
