As some of you may already know, Solid is well on our way to launching our Generally Available release of solidDB for MySQL. As part of the launch process, we are running a Pilot Program that gives customers early access to our storage engine technology. Customers in the Pilot Program will get help from Solid in integrating solidDB for MySQL into their business. They will also have access to Solid?s technical support and product management staff. Finally, there are some attractive incentives for future purchases and many other benefits. ¶

We have released an update to Beta 5, which contains several bug fixes. This release is solidmysql-5.0.27-beta5-0040 (note 0040 instead of 0036 from the original Beta 5). You can get it from the usual place (http://dev.soliddb.com/download/). We also have new mirrors set up through sourceforge, which should improve the download speeds for people, especially for those who are in Europe or Asia. You can access the mirrors from the same download page. ¶

If you have been using solidDB for MySQL Beta 4 and decided to try out solidDB for MySQL Beta 5, you might have seen the following warning message when you try to start up mysqld: ¶

SOLID Database Warning 1022: The database you are using has been
originally created with a different database block size setting
than your current setting.
To suppress this warning edit the solid.ini file to contain
the following parameter setting:
[IndexFile]BlockSize=8192

The reason for this warning message is that the default block size has changed. Beta 4 was using a default block size of 8K and Beta 5 uses a default block size of 16K. ¶

We’ve released solidDB for MySQL Beta 5! We are continuing to make improvements, and as always, we are looking for feedback from the community. What existing features are you using, which area needs improvement, what is your number one most wanted feature? ¶

We have released a new set of bits. The solidDB for MySQL Beta 4 is now out. Like the previous release, it is primarily intended as a bug fix release. Pessimistic concurrency control is now in the product, although it still needs additional testing and is therefore not officially listed as supported in the documentation. ¶

In case people haven’t heard, Solid announced our new solidDB for MySQL Beta at OSCON last week! This is a fully transactional storage engine that supports full ACID compliance with transaction isolation levels, optimistic and pessimistic row-level locking, and multi-version concurrency control.
