Recently, I’ve had reason to poke at MySQL performance on some pretty cool hardware. Comparing MySQL 5.6 to MySQL 5.7 is a pretty interesting thing to do when you have many CPU cores.
The improvements to creating read views in InnoDB is absolutely huge for small statements with large concurrency – MySQL 5.7 completely removes this as a bottleneck – as much as doubling maximum SQL queries per second, which is a pretty impressive improvement.
I haven’t poked at the similar improvements in Percona Server on this hardware setup – so I can only really guess as to the performance characteristics of it… If comparing to older MySQL versions, Percona Server 5.5 is likely to outperform MySQL 5.5 thanks to this optimization.
But I have to say… MySQL 5.7 is impressive …

MySQL and related database fields, but also to attend interesting

This year I spoke about synchronous replication at a higher
level. The talk was
titled “ACIDic Clusters: Review of current relational
databases with synchronous replication”. Having previously
given talks with boring titles (but interesting content), this
time I decided to go with an interesting title, and it seemed to
fit well with topic being discussed.

ClusterControl 1.2.6 introduces integration with Active Directory and LDAP authentication. This allows users to log into ClusterControl by using their corporate credentials instead of a separate password. LDAP groups can be mapped onto ClusterControl user groups to apply roles to the entire group, so it is very convenient for larger organizations who have a centralized LDAP-compliant authentication system. As with earlier renditions this year’s “UC” was very well attended with a healthy mix of familiar faces and new blood, all coming together to discuss, present and explore the boundaries of the most popular and widely used open source database on the planet. There were many good, informative keynote and technical sessions, BoFs and the exhibit hall was packed most of the operating hours with those interested in what the MySQL ecosystem is up to.
