Sessions now scheduled for MySQL Connect

The sessions for this year’s MySQL Connect conference have now been scheduled – as you can see below, my 2 MySQL Cluster sessions will be on Saturday 21st September at 11:30 and 14:30 (Pacific).

The MySQL Connect conference is a great opportunity to listen to and chat with people from the MySQL community – including the engineers who work on or around MySQL as well people who are using it in production. PoC: Using a Group Communication System (Isis2) to improve MySQL Replication HA

Modern NoSQL solutions make good, old MySQL Replication appear weak on High Availability (HA). Basically, MySQL users have three choices for MySQL Replication HA: give up on HA, believe that doubling single points of failures means HA, or go for a proper but complex solution. Albeit, as NoSQL world and competition proves, solid HA can be dead simple: embed a Group Communication System (GCS) into MySQL! No single point of failure and near zero client deployment is doable. Standalone MySQL Utilities Now GA! Includes running mysqlfailover as a daemon

With the release of MySQL Utilities 1.3.4, the standalone (not bundled with the MySQL WorkBench GUI) package is now Generally Available and fully supported. This post will focus on a very important change (the ability to run as a daemon rather than in a terminal) to the mysqlfailover utility which allows you to build a light-weight HA database solution using MySQL Replication.

MySQL Replication: Self-Healing Recovery with GTIDs and MySQL Utilities

MySQL 5.6 includes a host of enhancements to replication, enabling DevOps teams to reliably scale-out their MySQL infrastructure across commodity hardware, on-premise or in the cloud.

One of the most significant enhancements is the introduction of Global Transaction Identifiers (GTIDs) where the primary development motivation was:

- enabling seamless failover or switchover from a replication master to slave

- promoting that slave to the new master

- without manual intervention and with minimal service disruption.
