The MySQL Developer Tools team is proud to announce the next release of it’s flagship product, MySQL Workbench, version 5.2.35. This is the next maintenance release containing 29 bug fixes as well as new feature additions. We also updated the supported platforms to include most recent editions of Fedora and Ubuntu Linux.

MySQL Workbench 5.2.35 now supports the Native Windows Authentication Method – available in the commercial MySQL server product – and the creation of user accounts utilizing this new authentication method.

For the PHP developers out there, Workbench now also comes with a new set of plugins to turn SQL Queries into PHP code to be put right into your scripts.

Over the course of a workday I tend to accumulate lots of browser windows, and even more tabs inside them.  Up to now, I would often lose track of what which tabs were open in which window and in which space. In the end, I would often just open a page again in a new tab of the window I happened to be in at the moment, increasing the overall clutter.
With the advent of persistent application state across reboots or application restarts as well as fullscreen apps in Mac OS X Lion that situation has gotten even worse.

The "Window" menu in Safari does not help too much, because it only shows the tabs of the currently focussed window. Today, while wondering why a website was not displaying correctly, I accidentally found a remarkably simple (and built-in!) way of showing all open tabs across all open Safari windows.

After my recent Mac OS X 10.7 Lion upgrade I was greeted with a dialog box after reboot telling me that
com.apple.dock.extra.xpc needs to take control of another process for debugging to continue. Type the name and password of a user in the "Developer Tools" group to allow this.
No problem, I thought, and entered my credentials. Alas, to no avail. My name and password were rejected, which had me a little panicked at first, because I thought the OS upgrade might somehow have botched my account, potentially locking me out of my Mac later.

Hitting cancel would only get rid of the message for a few seconds, then it would reappear, again and again.

Apple has - as was to be expected - slightly modified the appearance of many Mac OS X controls in 10.7 "Lion". Some of those changes have caused protest and debate around the net, but I believe this is just the same as it is with face-lifted car designs, which means in a few weeks everyone will have gotten used to the new style and consider the previous version old-fashioned.

However, there is one particular little issue that I could tell I would not come to like immediately: The icons - and more importantly the font-size - in the Finder's left hand sidebar is way bigger than it was in Snow Leopard. This makes the source list look much more cluttered in my opinion.

If you use a Mac, and you are dealing with many similar tasks at once, like examining many database servers in different terminals, you may like this one.
I have been using iTerm 2 for a while, and my handling of parallel tasks has improved a lot. (No, I am not talking about Parallel replication, although I have applied this trick while testing that technology as well.)
iTerm2 has some cool features, and probably the most striking one is split panes. That alone would be a good reason for giving iTerm2 a try. But the one that I use the most, often in combination with Split Panes, is called Send Input to all tabs.

We’re proud to announce the next release of MySQL Workbench, version 5.2.32. This is a maintenance release featuring
a new and improved UI appearance and several corrections and other enhancements.

The tabbed interface has been refreshed to obtain a clearer separation between different modules of Workbench, while improving responsiveness when switching between tabs. The Query Formatter has been rewritten and is now faster and more robust on its handling of queries. The layout of the Administration module has been changed to allow for easier future expansion and use less vertical screen space. Parts that had problems managing MySQL 5.5 servers have been fixed along other total of 53 bugs or enhancement requests have been addressed.

We’re proud to announce the next release of MySQL Workbench, version 5.2.31. This is a maintenance release focusing on general product improvement and usability.

We managed to close 97 bugs for this release.

MySQL Workbench:  Remote Administration on Windows – Support for Windows “Remote” Management within the New Server Instance Wizard and Manage Server Instance Form. This works for servers on the same domain (or trusted) – ie typical Windows LAN environments.  We expect Windows users to prefer this “native” way to do remote admin on Windows.  SSH remote admin has been available for some time on Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.

MySQL Workbench:  Utilities Plugin – Starts a shell that contains a set of python scripts that perform basic tasks such as copying, exporting, and importing databases, finding database objects or processes, cloning servers and cloning users.
