Group Replication – Consistent Reads Deep Dive

On previous posts about Group Replication consistency we:

  1. introduced consistency levels;
  2. explained how to configure the primary failover consistency;
  3. presented how to configure transaction consistency levels to achieve the consistency required by your applications.

In blog 3. we presented the consistency levels: EVENTUAL, BEFORE, AFTER and BEFORE_AND_AFTER; their scopes: SESSION, GLOBAL; and their context: whether they only impact the ongoing transaction or all concurrent transactions.…

Group Replication – Consistent Reads

As we showed on the introduction post, in MySQL 8.0.14 Group Replication was once again improved. Now the developer can specify which is the consistency level of all group transactions or even of a single transaction.

Note that this is about consistency in terms of the global synchronization of transactions in the group.…

Group Replication – Consistency Levels

The MySQL Group Replication (GR) feature is a multi-primary update anywhere or single-primary replication plugin for MySQL with built-in conflict detection and resolution, automatic distributed recovery, and group membership.

Its goal it is to make high-availability (HA) simple with off-the-shelf hardware, not only to new applications but also existing ones – that was one of the motivations of the single-primary mode.…

Extending replication instrumentation: account for memory used in XCom

Version 8.0.12 added many great new features to MySQL. One of the new features included is the memory instrumentation of the XCom cache, which allows users to view and monitor the memory utilization of the cache by querying Performance Schema (PS).…

MySQL 8.0 Group Replication Limitations

We build highly available and fault tolerant MySQL database infrastructure operations for some of the largest internet properties in this planet,  Our consulting team spend several hours daily researching on MySQL documentation and MySQL blogs to understand what are the best possible ways we can build optimal, scalable, highly available and reliable database infrastructure operations for planet-scale web properties. The most common approach towards building a fault-tolerant system is to make all the components in the ecosystem redundant, To make it even simple, component can be removed and system should continue to operate as expected.  MySQL replication is an proven method to build redundant database infrastructure operations, operationally these systems are highly complex, requiring maintenance and administration of several servers instead of just one, You need Sr. DBAs to manage such systems.

More P_S Instrumentation for Group Replication

In order to improve observability and manageability of MySQL Group Replication (GR), we enhanced its instrumentation in MySQL 8.0.4. With these goals in mind, we have extended the usage of Performance Schema (P_S) from this plugin to the included Group Communication System (GCS) module as well as its submodule eXtended Communications (XCom) which are responsible for all communication involved in the dissemination of transactions to other MySQL instances.…

Minimizing Risk with MySQL Group Replication

MySQL databases power your business, and every minute of downtime has costs. High availability is essential and you can minimize risk with MySQL Group Replication.

The post Minimizing Risk with MySQL Group Replication appeared first on Datavail.

Performance Evaluation: MySQL 5.7 Group Replication (GA Release)

Great news: Group Replication is now officially released with MySQL 5.7.17, congratulations to everybody that worked so hard for it!

In this post I plan to share more details about the performance of Group Replication while addressing one of our frequently asked questions, which is how it performs compared to Galera.…

MySQL Group Replication : It’s in 5.7.17 GA!

Extremely exciting news! A big day today. In case you have missed it, MySQL Group Replication has made it into the MySQL 5.7.17 release. Thus, it is now GA.

The MySQL Group Replication feature is a multi-master update anywhere replication plugin  for MySQL with built-in conflict detection and resolution, automatic distributed recovery, and group membership.…

MySQL Group Replication OOW Tutorial

The second MySQL tutorial session at Oracle Open World was “MySQL Group Replication in a Nutshell” by MySQL Community Manager Frederic Descamps. This is succinctly described as:

“Multi-master update anywhere replication for MySQL with built-in conflict detection and resolution, automatic distributed recovery, and group membership.”

MySQL Group Replication (GR) is a virtually synchronous replication solution which is an integral component of MySQL InnoDB Cluster announced at the MySQL keynote. You can download a labs version of MySQL InnoDB cluster which includes three components.
