There has been a lot of discussion about MariaDB 10.0 throughout the whole year. When will it be released, what will it include, what is the focus on MariaDB going forward, etc? My feeling is that people have in the past few months started to understand the value of MariaDB 10.0. There is a good group of people and companies that have been trying out and using the MariaDB 10.0 alpha releases and providing us with excellent feedback.
MariaDB 10.0 is a massive release with loads of new features which ease several pain points that MariaDB and MySQL users have run into over the years.

Today we released TokuDB v7.1, which includes the following important features and fixes:
- Added ability for users to view lock information via information_schema.tokudb_trx, information_schema.tokudb_locks, and information_schema.tokudb_lock_waits tables.
- Changed the default compression to zlib and default basement node size to 64K.
- Changed default analyze time to 5 seconds.
- Added server variable to control amount of memory allocated for each bulk loader. In prior TokuDB versions each loader allocated 50% of the available TokuDB cache.
- Changed table close behavior such that all data for the table remains in the cache (and is not flushed immediately).
- Removed user reported stalls due to cache pressure induced by the bulk loader, lock tree escalation, and a particular open table stall.

We’ve been hard at work on TokuMX since it’s initial release just over 2 months ago. Today we released TokuMX v1.2 which includes Hot Backup in the Enterprise Edition.
Hot Backup allows users to create a backup of a running TokuMX primary or secondary server in a replica set, with no blocking of writes for clients. We will be blogging more about the Hot Backup technology in the coming weeks. This same technology is used for Hot Backup in TokuDB.
Also worth noting are the features we’ve added since the initial TokuMX release:
- Migration Tools. Migrate to TokuMX from MongoDB using our tool that replays MongoDB repication. This allows a TokuMX server to stay in sync with a MongoDB replica set, reducing downtime for production go-live.
