Coming to the Hyatt Santa Clara, for the MySQL Conference & Expo 2009? Beware, that this year, the in-room Internet just isn’t so peachy.

When you check in, there’s this option of a “Business Plan” that Hyatt sells you - USD$30, for free wired in-room Internet (a $12.95/day value), free breakfast (this includes 15% gratuity, so a $20+ value), a free bottle of water (yes, otherwise its $3.95), and all the local and long distance calls in the US that you’ll need (depending on what you do, YMMV). It seemed like a good deal.

Now, for the benefit of others, which has taken about four days for me to fix. When you’re on this plan, the Hyatt rebates your Internet within an hour or so of you signing up for the deal. The Sunday before the MySQL User Conference is always full of trying to meet up with new or old friends, even if your flight lands after dinnertime. With that in mind, the very first event of the week is MySQL Camp’s “Games Day”.

Finally we got our proposal approved for the the MySQL conference and Victor and I will be speaking on April 22 about Testing the cluster with ANSTE.

This year I was happy to be accepted as a speaker at MySQLConf 2009, presenting a session on MySQL Enterprise Monitor and Query Analyzer alongside Phil Hildebrand.

What’s it about? We’ll talk about the Enterprise Monitor and Query Analyzer tools from a user perspective.  You may have read a Sun/MySQL press release or a whitepaper on those (maybe even mine), but it still may be hard to get a sense of what these products are and why they are useful.

Because these are part of MySQL’s Enterprise offering, they are not free open source software.  Thus I suspect only a small percentage of MySQL users are aware of what they do and probably even fewer have …

As many of us know, the 5th annual MySQL Conference and Expo is happening April 20-23rd, 2009 in Santa Clara, California. The theme is Innovation Everywhere, and this year the conference organizers have taken an innovative page from OSCon and decided to host a free “camp” during the conference.

As far as I know, MySQL Camp is the only free, non-commercial programming occurring. We already have a fantastic lineup of speakers and last week I was surprised with another bounty — MySQL Camp has been extended to Thursday!

So, a colleague ran into issues booking the Santa Clara Hyatt Regency Hotel—apparently there were no rooms with 2 double beds left for the MySQL 2009 Conference and Expo.

I could not imagine that the conference hotel would sell out so quickly!

I went there and did a little detective work. What I found was:

• When I chose Mon Apr 20 - Thu Apr 23, there were rooms with 2 double beds available.
