For some reason my presentation slides have not been posted to on MySQL Users Conference site. Here it is, a pdf format of "Introduction to Using DTrace with MySQL".

Completed my MySQL Conference presentation 45 minutes ago. Seemed to go over ok, got some followup questions. Trouble is, I got hit by amazing jetlag half an hour before the session, and almost fell asleep myself during the presentation. Fortunately, survived that anyway, and as far as I could see, was the only one having problems staying awake. Below is an embedded version of the slides, which should also appear on the conference proceedings site later. Now for a beer at the expo. Will blog with more description of the stuff later (update: see this follow-up article).

The MySQL Conference & Expo 2009 in Santa Clara is now in full swing and Karen Padir just gave the opening keynote, talking about Sun's continued and improved commitment to Open Source and the upcoming MySQL products like the MySQL 5.4 performance release or MySQL Cluster 7.0. One of the activities that she mentioned in her keynote is our ongoing activity to improve the acceptance and incorporation of patches contributed by the community.

Today, for me is day 1 of the MySQL Confernece & Expo 2009. It seems to be going pretty well - and its only 2.45pm.

If you follow Planet MySQL, or happen to just have random conversations with people, the main buzz for the day is “Oracle buying Sun”. But let me not bore you with that. I just want to log some of my interesting conversations.

Over lunch I had a good discussion with users of MySQL, and one potential user of MySQL (his company uses Oracle, MS SQL Server, Sybase, and are now looking at MySQL). We talked about quite a number of things:

• The documentation (which I, and the rest of the MySQL users use) seems to not be complete for an Oracle person. Why? It seems we’re missing out on things like the models. We lack enough theory. People would like to “see” (visually) what the InnoDB buffer pool does, not just read about it. In fact, it also seems like we might need to be clearer with the use of …
