The reason I say that and stress that is despite its success, we see a variety of legal threats, accusations and actual lawsuits to come flying at Android as fast as it is growing in the market.
Still, we seem to be able to fairly easily find agreement among vendors, developers and users that Android development is not slowing down, that legal maneuvering will not pave a path to success or that any ruling or action will take Android-based phones out of consumers’ hands. When the iPad came out just before last year's
O'Reilly MySQL Conference, I decided I would
become a late adopter. I didn't want yet another piece of
electronics that needed charging, downloading, syncing,
upgrading, and turning off at takeoff and landing. Sure, I like
new technology, but there must be a modicum of rationality in
owning it. And I didn't want to carry around a further
distraction, so I decided I was happy with the combination of a
MacBook Pro and pen-and-paper.

[Read more]It is great to draw inspiration from other Open Source communities. Brad Fitzpatrick recently wrote about Android Strict Mode. His twitter tag line for this post was “I see you were doing 120 ms in a 16 ms zone” which is all I needed to hear from somebody who also worries unreasonably about responsiveness (Web site quote).
How would I apply this to a MySQL context? This is what happens in Android. “Strict Mode lets you set a policy on a thread declaring what you’re not allowed to do on that thread, and what the penalty is if you violate the policy. Implementation-wise, this policy is simply a thread-local integer bitmask. By default everything is allowed and it won’t get in your way unless you want it to”
