The schedule to Percona Live Europe 2016 is being finalized. It should be published soon, and it will include 3 hour and 6 hour tutorials, regular 50-minute talks, and shorter 25-minutes talks. It will not include, however, the lightning talks, a session comprising several 5-minute talks, and they are missing from the initial schedule for two reasons:

• We want to offer a chance to all attendees to propose a lightning talk for some time. We would like to have more quality material to choose from.
• They will not be in the conference venue. Instead, they will be hosted at Booking, during the community dinner.

Two weeks after the big annual event in San Francisco, Oracle Open World 2016 , September 18-22, there will be another MySQL focused event in Europe: Percona Live Amsterdam, October 3-5.

The MySQL Engineering Team and Community Team will be present. We have submitted a list of very interesting talks, mostly related to the upcoming new major release of MySQL.

In an effort to involve the larger community in the talks selections, PLAM’s organization implemented a community voting process for the previous edition. Starting with Vitess v2.0.0-beta.2, the VTGate V3 API can route complex single-shard queries (containing joins, subqueries, aggregation, sorting, and any combination thereof) as well as perform cross-shard joins. That means you no longer need to tell VTGate the keyspace ID that a query targets, as you did with the VTGate V2 API. The fact that keyspace IDs are now hidden from the application has enabled drop-in Vitess libraries for standard database interfaces like JDBC (written by Flipkart), PDO (written by Pixel Federation), PEP 249, and database/sql.

• rootconf.in – April 14-15 2016, tutorial day on 16 – I’ve not been to India since about 2011, so I’m looking forward to this trip to Bangalore (and my first time to a HasGeek event). Getting the email from the conference chair was very nice, and I believe I’m giving a keynote and a tutorial.

• FOSSASIA – 18-20 March 2016, Singapore

Two talks in London and one keynote in Singapore, while I will also moderate the database track on the last day of the conference as well. I’ve never been to flossUK before, but the schedule looks very interesting and I’m looking forward to it. FOSSASIA is an event I’ve been going to regularly since it was held in varying places (Vietnam, Cambodia, before finally settling down in Singapore) so this is an always exciting time.

SCALE14x was held at Pasadena, Los Angeles this year from January 21-24 2016. I think its important to note that the venue changed from the Hilton LAX — this is a much bigger space, as the event is much bigger, and you’ll also notice that the expo hall has grown tremendously.

I had a talk in the MySQL track, and that was just one of over 180 talks. There were over 3,600 people attending, and it showed by the number of people coming by the MariaDB Corporation booth. I spent sometime there with Rod Allen, Max Mether, and Kurt Pastore, and the qualified leads we received were pretty high. Of course it didn’t hurt that we were also giving away a Sphero BB-8 Droid.
