Abstract:

Yes, you read it correctly, we are jumping from 5.7 to 8.0 (that sounds familiar, doesn’t it?). The new version doesn’t only change the number but also changes how you write SQL. Recursive queries will allow you to generate series and work with hierarchical data. New JSON functions and performance improvements were also added to 8.0 to help you work on non-relational data. Expect to see what is new and improved in this talk to power up your application even more.

Auf der FrOSCon 10 in St. Augustin habe ich kürzlich ein Update zu unseren Erfahrungen mit dem Thema "Private Cloud mit OpenSource" gegeben. Leider sind noch nicht alle Probleme, über die letztes Jahr berichtet wurde, behoben, aber wir sind schon ein gutes Stück weiter und haben neue Stolperfallen gefunden und z. T. auch überwunden.

Leider habe ich mich mit der Zeit ein wenig getäuscht, da ich den Talk vorher schon einmal in gekürzter Form in 40 Minuten unterbringen musste, aber in der Präsentation den Countdown für die FrOSCon wieder auf 60 Minuten zu stellen vergessen hatte. Zwischenzeitlich war ich deswegen der Meinung, ziemlich hinterherzuhängen... Hoffe, es macht trotzdem ein bisschen Spaß, so blieb am Ende mehr Zeit für Fragen und Gespräche :)

What do the acronyms I18N or L10N stand for? What do they mean for developers of mobile applications in particular?

I hosted a session about localizing mobile applications at Developer Week 2014 in Nuremberg. It covers — among other things — text, numbers, date and time, images, and other localizable resources.

At the first ever CodingSerbia conference in Novi Sad, Serbia, I did an introductory talk about how iOS development works in general, with a focus on Java developers who did not have any experience with either the tools, frameworks or even Objective-C as a language.

If you’re in Nuremberg Germany next week (November 15-17th) and have anything to do with Oracle or their products, then the DOAG (German Oracle User Group) conference is the place to be. I will be representing SkySQL Ab at the conference, giving a talk about the internal architecture of MySQL Cluster. The talk will look at the internals of MySQL Cluster and at the different processes that ensure the High Availability of MySQL Cluster. Beyond that, the talk will also look at how the data is stored on the data nodes, how different types of queries are resolved in the cluster, and how a primary key lookup is executed differs significantly from a tree index search. The talk will also look at the resources involved in resolving the queries.
So if any of the above sounds interesting come and listen to my talk in room Singapur at 13:00 on Tuesday!

The HailDB talk is all about a C API to embed an InnoDB based relational database engine into your application. Awesome stuff (also nice and technical).

The second talk, “Dropping ACID: Eating Data in a Web 2.0 Cloud World” is not only a joke that only database people get, but a humorous and serious look at data integrity and reliability as promised by the current hype. This was quite well received at linux.conf.au in January. So, if you weren’t in Australia in January this year, then certainly come along and see how you go …
